In September 2025, Emerald Strategy Partners (ESP) was proud to co-host the Shandong–Ireland Economic & Trade Cooperation Exchange Conference, a landmark event dedicated to deepening economic collaboration between Ireland and Shandong Province.
The conference was presided over by Mr. Meng Xiangdong, Chairman of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) Shandong Sub-council, and brought together senior officials, policymakers, and business leaders from both regions.
Distinguished Speakers
The event featured a strong line-up of voices from government, diplomacy, agriculture, and business, including:
Li Guoqian, Deputy Secretary-General of the CPC Shandong Provincial Committee
Ultan Waldron, Head of Meat and Milk Policy Division, Department of Agriculture, Food and Marine of Ireland
Wang Jiabao, Counsellor of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Ireland
Susan Barrett, Chairperson of the Western & North Western Region, Ireland China Business Association
Zhang Hongqi, Director-General, Shandong Provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs
Patrick Guale, Policy Manager, IDA Ireland
Simon Hao, Senior Market Advisor, Enterprise Ireland
The organisation was supported by Venture Network Ireland, whose contribution helped ensure the success of the event.
The purpose of the conference was clear: to increase trade ties between Ireland and Shandong Province, one of China’s most dynamic and economically powerful regions. Discussions focused on sectors where both Ireland and Shandong share complementary strengths — agriculture, agri-food, technology, and investment.
Following the formal sessions, a matchmaking seminar was held, providing a unique opportunity for Irish and Shandong businesses to meet directly. This session created valuable connections, allowing enterprises on both sides to explore collaboration in trade, joint ventures, and innovation partnerships.
ESP’s Reflection
The conference highlighted the growing importance of Ireland–China cooperation, especially in agriculture, trade, and investment. More importantly, it offered practical outcomes: new contacts, new opportunities, and new momentum for collaboration.
As Ireland and Shandong look toward the future, ESP remains committed to supporting businesses and institutions on both sides in building partnerships that create real impact.
